Joel Bloomberg Joel Bloomberg has been designing and creating sculptural and functional artwork for galleries, designers and collectors since 1980. Joel has earned his Associate of Arts Degree in Chemistry and Glass from Palomar College and his Bachelor’s Degree in Glass and Sculpture from California State University, Chico. Joel has created many site-specific glass sculptures for groups including the city of West Hollywood, CA; the Great American Bank, San Diego; and the Gesim Corporation in Calabasas, CA. Joel Bloomberg’s work has been shown in over 100 galleries and museums in the United States and Canada and it is also included in major private collections throughout North America, Europe, and Japan. Joel’s distinctively sculptural jellyfish lamps are part of an ongoing exploration of the vocabulary of glass. The artist’s object is to create new designs and to develop techniques that allow him to use materials in unexpected ways. Joel’s jellyfish require a complex combination of blowing, coldworking, and lamination that has taken the artist years to perfect.
